Toni Bechtold was born in Heidenheim an der Brenz on April 16th 1986. Before attending a school he started to play music on a wooden flute. At the age of 10 he started on alto sax. After falling in love with jazz through the music of john coltrane and meeting dave liebman he switched first to soprano and in the year 2000 to tenor saxophone. At the same time he started to lead and co-lead his own bands together with his brother Florian Bechtold. From 2003 to 2006 he was a member of the Landesjugendjazzorchester Baden-Württemberg conducted by Bernd Konrad. He started getting lessons by Klaus Graf. In January 2006 he joined the band Sightwinder, which recorded 2 CDs since then. They were to be seen in SWR television in March. Later that year, he toured though Brazil with the Grombachers, who invite him sometimes for bigger events. Many of the concerts there were broadcasted live by brazilian television. Now he is studying jazz saxophone and jazz education at Musikhochschule Nürnberg-Augsburg with Steffen Schorn, who was the first to evoke the dream of becoming a jazz musician, when Toni was a child of 10.
